As-Samad — The Eternal Refuge: الصَّمَدُ
Meaning
The Master sought in need, the Solid One free of need — 112:2, following Al-Ahad. Classical exegesis gathers: the One to whom all turn, who eats not, begets not, and suffices all. Need flows upward to Him; nothing flows out of need from Him.
Textual references
- Qur’an 112:2
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Take every need to As-Samad first; creatures are tributaries, He is the sea.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
