As-Salam — The Source of Peace: السَّلَامُ
Meaning
Free from every deficiency and the granter of safety to creation — the greeting of Paradise (10:10) and the name in 59:23. Peace here is not mere absence of conflict but wholeness bestowed: Paradise itself is called Dar as-Salam (6:127).
Textual references
- Qur’an 59:23
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Every "as-salamu alaykum" is a small invocation of this name between people.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
Sources & methodology
- Qur’an 59:23 (see also 6:127; 10:10)
- Sahih al-Bukhari 2736 (the 99 names)
Verse citations were checked against the Qur’an text. Claims that could not be verified were omitted. No recitation counts, guaranteed effects, or per-name hadith benefits are asserted.
