Al-Quddus — The Most Holy: الْقُدُّوسُ
Meaning
Utterly free of defect, need, or imperfection — exalted above anything unworthy attributed to Him. It appears in 59:23 and 62:1 ("glorifies Allah, the King, the Holy"). The angels’ glorification in 2:30 ("we declare Your praise and sanctify You") echoes this root.
Textual references
- Qur’an 59:23
- Qur’an 62:1
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Sanctification is response: declare Him free of flaw before asking anything of Him.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
