Al-Wahhab — The Lavish Bestower: الْوَهَّابُ
Meaning
Giving as pure gift, repeatedly and without compensation — the intensive form of "grant" (hiba). 3:8 places it on the tongues of the firmly rooted ("Our Lord... bestow upon us mercy"), and 38:9, 38:35 join it to boundless treasuries and kingdom.
Textual references
- Qur’an 3:8
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Ask as one asking a gift, not filing an invoice: hiba expects no exchange.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
