Al-Wadud — The Most Loving: الْوَدُودُ
Meaning
Affectionate love toward His servants, joined to forgiveness — 85:14: "He is the Forgiving, the Loving." Wudd is tender, constant love; its pairing with forgiveness answers the fear that sin places one beyond affection.
Textual references
- Qur’an 85:14
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Return does not merely restore neutrality; it restores love.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
