Al-Qabid — The Withholder: الْقَابِضُ
Meaning
The One who constricts provision, hearts, or circumstances by wisdom — always paired with Al-Basit (#21). The pair comes from the hadith "Allah is Al-Qabid, Al-Basit, Ar-Razzaq" (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi — graded authentic by several scholars), said when prices rose and the Prophet declined to fix them. Neither name is contemplated alone.
Textual references
No direct verse ascription for this exact name-form is established — the name is contemplated via the classical listing and related texts noted in Sources. This uncertainty is stated rather than filled.
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Constriction seasons are not abandonment; read them inside the pair, ending in openness.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
