Al-Basit — The Extender, the Open-Handed: الْبَاسِطُ
Meaning
The One who extends provision, mercy, and hearts — the inseparable pair of Al-Qabid (#20), from the same price-hadith. Basq (extension) here is generosity with wisdom, not indulgence: He opens some hands and seasons while constricting others, each by knowledge.
Textual references
No direct verse ascription for this exact name-form is established — the name is contemplated via the classical listing and related texts noted in Sources. This uncertainty is stated rather than filled.
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Thank openness without demanding permanence; the Extender also teaches through withholding.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
