Al-Hadi — The Guide: الْهَادِي
Meaning
The One who guides whom He wills to what benefits — 22:54 affirms "Allah guides the believers to a straight path" with this root; the Fatiha’s central plea ("guide us," 1:6) is addressed to Him. Guidance is His gift before it is our achievement.
Textual references
No direct verse ascription for this exact name-form is established — the name is contemplated via the classical listing and related texts noted in Sources. This uncertainty is stated rather than filled.
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Ask guidance daily like the Fatiha does; arrival is His act.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
Sources & methodology
- Qur’an 22:54; 1:6 (guidance ascribed and sought — see methodology)
