Al-Ghaffar — The Repeatedly Forgiving: الْغَفَّارُ
Meaning
Forgiveness in intensive, repeated form — for sins repeated and returned to. 20:82 conditions it on return, faith, righteous action, and guidance; 39:5 pairs it with the Almighty. Distinguish from Al-Ghafur (#34): Ghaffar stresses repetition toward the repeat offender.
Textual references
- Qur’an 20:82
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
