Al-Azim — The Magnificent: الْعَظِيمُ
Meaning
Greatness in essence, attributes, and acts — closing Ayat al-Kursi (2:255): "He is the Most High, the Magnificent." Distinguish from Al-Kabir (#37, sheer supremacy of being) and Al-Jalil (#41, majesty commanding reverence): Azim gathers grandeur of self and deed.
Textual references
- Qur’an 2:255
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Let one thing be unconditionally great to you; relativize the rest.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
