Al-Aliyy — The Most High: الْعَلِيُّ
Meaning
Exaltation above all creation in essence, power, and status — with Al-Azim in 2:255 ("the Most High, the Magnificent"). Against Al-Kabir (#37) and Al-Muta’ali (#78): Ali is sheer highness; Kabir, greatness of being; Muta’ali, transcendence over association.
Textual references
- Qur’an 2:255
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Sujud is the body’s confession of this name: lowest posture to the Highest.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
