Dhu al-Jalali wal-Ikram — Lord of Majesty and Honor: ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ
Meaning
Possessor of grandeur and generous nobility together — 55:27 and 55:78, closing Surah Ar-Rahman’s refrain. The Prophet urged holding to it in supplication ("cling to O Lord of majesty and honor," Tirmidhi 3525). Majesty that honors rather than merely awes.
Textual references
- Qur’an 55:27
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Supplicate with it by name, as taught — majesty and generosity in one address.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
