At-Tawwab — The Acceptor of Repentance: التَّوَّابُ
Meaning
Turning repeatedly toward the repentant — 2:37 (Adam’s words accepted) and 2:128 name Him so. The form is intensive on both sides: servants turn again and again, and He receives again and again. Despair is the only unforgiven strategy.
Textual references
- Qur’an 2:37
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Repent at once and repeat as needed; the name is in the intensive form for a reason.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
