Al-Karim — The Generous, the Noble: الْكَرِيمُ
Meaning
Generosity that gives without being asked and forgives without reproach — 27:40: "my Lord is Self-Sufficient, Generous." Against Al-Wahhab (#16, pure gift) and Al-Jawad (not in this listing): Karim adds nobility of manner — giving honorably, pardoning beautifully.
Textual references
- Qur’an 27:40
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Give like the Generous: freely, and without narrating the gift afterward.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
