Al-Jabbar — The Compeller, the Restorer: الْجَبَّارُ
Meaning
The One whose will prevails and who "sets bones" — the root jabr means both compulsion and the mending of what is broken. In 59:23 it is a perfection in Him; the same root applied to humans (e.g. 19:14, 19:32 in negated form) denotes tyranny. Context decides the moral sign.
Textual references
- Qur’an 59:23
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
The hand that compels history is the hand that splints the broken.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
