Al-Hamid — The Praiseworthy: الْحَمِيدُ
Meaning
Worthy of praise in every state, praised by all even when some withhold — 11:73 joins it to the Glorious; 14:8 notes praise benefits none but the praiser. Praise here is due, not flattery: it describes, not persuades.
Textual references
- Qur’an 11:73
The 99-names hadith itself (Sahih al-Bukhari 2736; Sahih Muslim 2677) does not enumerate the names; the enumeration order follows the Tirmidhi listing, whose chain scholars grade as weak for the list itself.
Reflection
Alhamdulillah is not mood-dependent; it is name-dependent.
A personal contemplation aid — not doctrine and not a promised outcome.
Sources & methodology
- Qur’an 11:73
- Sahih al-Bukhari 2736 (the 99 names)
